Bach in the Days
Keybird piano and double bass duo, with Marion Pacaud.
In 1959, a young French pianist sat down at the piano and played Bach, but with swing. Jacques Loussier went on to sell more than six million records with this simple idea: giving improvisation back the place it once had in classical music, and revealing the extraordinary jubilant power of Johann Sebastian Bach's music.
Bach in the Days takes up this challenge more than sixty years later. Some pages stay faithful to the Leipzig cantor's scores, others grow out of freely adapted baroque fragments. From contemporary jazz to American minimalism, the music, written or improvised, is always in dialogue with Bach's own material.

Bach in the Days does not try to modernise Bach. It reminds us that he never stopped being modern.
