Moonsüün

Piano, bass and drums trio: collective improvisation, minimalism and rock energy. With Louis de Mieulle and Antoine Fournier.

Inspired by jazz, modal music and the American minimalists, Moonsüün thrives on sonic experiment.

Crossing back and forth from jazz to classical music, the three friends once formed the band Soundchaser in Paris in the early 2000s, an electric adventure paying tribute to 70s jazz-rock and expanding on more avant-garde idioms, from Messiaen to Meshuggah.

After long detours through the New York scene (for bassist Louis de Mieulle) and the big stages of the pop world (for pianist Augustin d'Assignies), they got together again, this time for collective improvisation: acoustic, minimal music that still preserves the rockier energy of days past. They renamed their trio Moonsüün, both to reflect a quest for balance and fully embrace the beginning of their new musical journey.

Lying somewhere between The Necks and The Bad Plus, their hypnotic improvisations stretch time to the limits.
